Our Appalachia Youth Mission Trip is designed for our Resurrection Parish youth and young adults (entering high school in Fall 2024 and older). The trip is an opportunity to provide our young people a unique opportunity to experience their faith through serving others, learning skills, spending extensive time together building relationships, and appreciating that “in giving we receive.” We prepare for our Appalachia trip throughout the year mainly through fundraising so we are able to serve the families of Appalachia.
In 2024, this ministry will begin a new chapter by serving locations in the northern part of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and in eastern Ohio. Our team will stay at the Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center in Pulaski, PA which is a large campus used primarily for Catholic retreats and as the home for the Sisters of the Humility of Mary. We are excited about the opportunity to have our youth experience accommodations in a Catholic environment as our mission groups have done in the past.
Please contact Mary Swindal, Pastoral Associate, at mswindal@resurrectionpgh to be added the Appalachia email distribution list, or to ask any questions you may have. Registration for current 8th graders and high school students, as well as young adults age 18 - 24, is now open! Click below to sign up!

What we do:
Each year in July, approximately 80 adults, college students and high school youth travel for a week-long mission trip to repair and improve homes for families in need.
We have fundraising plans in motion, and team leaders are working with agencies to scout out and assess potential work sites. Our adult leaders guide the youth throughout the week both on the jobsite and off. In addition to working a jobsite Monday-Thursday, the team has an opportunity for daily Mass, communal meals, planned recreation in the evening (like pool time and games), prayer, discussion, and dynamic evening programs. By the end of the week, the group will have completed great work, built new friendships and deepened their understanding of service and faith.
If you are a high school student (entering 9th grade at least in the Fall of the upcoming school year) or young adult (18 - 24) who is looking for a fun, different, and meaningful experience, consider signing up for the trip! Those who have gone always say that it’s the best week of their year and can’t wait to go back. The memories are unforgettable and the friendships made are lasting.
If you are an adult – with or without construction and home renovation experience – who enjoys teaching and spending time with teens, and who loves to serve, consider signing up for the trip! (First priority is given to youth, but please let us know if you are interested in the trip.)
